So, more than a year ago, i saw that Bluewater Comics was looking for artists at digitalwebbing.com(in the PAID section, not COLLABORATIONS)
It was a back-end deal: the artist would receive 15% of the sales of the book, plus something extra from the trades. I did it as a side project, while working at studio, and I thought it was a good way to start. And I got the chance to draw Vincent Price: the comic was Vincent Price Presents.
I had a blast drawing it and I really pushed myself to do something decent, so I'm quite happy with the result. When page 5 was ready and aproved, Darren offered to draw a sci-fi miniseries. I was really happy. "Maybe this time I can get a page rate!", I thought. But no, when I said that to him, he dropped the offer right away. So i continued with Vincent Price.
The book came out more than a year after I finished it, but I never received a copy of it. And I was told it didn't make enough profits, so no money for me. Then, i found an interview with SEAN GORDON MURPHY, where he says that he also worked for this guy, and never got paid.
So, DON'T WORK FOR BLUEWATER/DARREN G DAVIS. Unless you don't mind working for free or getting paid whenever and whatever they want.
Here are some articles that back me up (thanks to Angilram Hrafna for the help):
